Puppy Vaccinations
Puppies should begin their vaccination series when they are 6 – 8 weeks old. If the puppy’s mother was unvaccinated, the puppy vaccines should be administered earlier and if the puppy’s mother was fully vaccinated the puppy vaccination (Distemper-Parvo Combo) can begin a little later. In any case, the shots should be given every 3 or 4 weeks until the puppy is 4 months old or older, and then we give the Rabies along with the last round of Puppy Shots. Please note that the last two puppy vaccinations given are the most important for the development of yearly immunity and continuing the series all the way up to 4 months is critical. Our experience has repeatedly proven that this 4 month date is truly important and we can explain more in person or via e-mail contact.
The puppy’s first Rabies vaccination will last for one year as will the final puppy shot.

* There is newer information indicating the increased duration of some vaccine immunities. Consequently owners of some older dogs may choose to extend the 1 year interval between the Distemper/Parvo vaccinations to 3 years. Since the dog vaccine label specifies yearly re-vaccination, responsibility for extending the vaccination interval rests entirely with the owner.
