Having noted that a Schnauzer can be a reliably noisy and alert dog, We are pleased to present a picture from Rocklin Roseville of Lando and Leah who completely break that stereotype. These two Miniature Schnauzers were not only sweet and attentive but, uncharacteristically, they were completely silent! Just goes to show that every generalization is there to be broken 🙂
All Schnauzers originally derive from the medium sized German Pinscher of the 15th century which was a multi-purpose guard dog, herding dog and vermin killer. Miniature Schnauzers are a downsized version of the Standard Schnauzer and were bred in Germany by crossing the Standard Schnauzer, Poodle and Affenpinscher with the purpose of producing a more suitable ratter. The Miniature retains the Standard’s territorial and guarding characteristics but does not have much biting instinct and makes a good pet. Children love them and they love children. Schnauzers don’t shed much, are hypoallergenic and live a long time but, as noted at the top, be sure to train them to insure control of their high energy and enthusiastic barking. And plan to do a lot of grooming or else have your Schnauzer clipped 🙂
