Copper the Cocker Spaniel
Cute canines and their happy humans can be seen at http://facebook.com/dogandcatshots and on our regular website.
Cocker Spaniels like Copper, who is seen here with his human at our Sacramento clinic in Natomas, bring plenty of happiness to their human families and make great pets. The interesting thing about Cocker Spaniels is that in the early ’20th century they were immensely popular and were good reliable house pets. Then something went awry with the breeding and by mid century the breed had developed a beautiful flowing coat with perfect appearance but also an unpredictably aggressive temperament and by the 1970’s we veterinary students were taught that we had to be extra cautious around Cocker Spaniels. Luckily for all of us, the Cocker Spaniel breeding community took rapid and focused steps to correct the the problems they had created and by the 21st century (that’s here and now!) we are back to a loving and rewarding relationship with the Cocker Spaniel breed. The Cocker Spaniel is one of those happy stories which demonstrates what great results breeders can achieve when they set about the task of improving breed characteristics. Go Copper!
