A German Wirehaire Pointer Visited Our Pet Vaccination Clinic in the Freeport area of Sacramento
Toby is a German Wirehaire Pointer who, along with his humans, came to our pet vaccination clinic in the South and Freeport area of Sacramento. Over the past decades this breed has been a practically exotic type almost never seen at our clinics but over the recent years we have seen more and more of them. The German Wirehaired Pointer is a Griffon type hunting dog bred in 19’th century Germany. They were developed for all types of hunting, pointing and retrieving in many different conditions. Their wiry coat protects them from the elements and from rough terrain yet sheds enough undercoat to be cool in the summer. German Wirehairs are energetic, loyal, and trainable. The wirehair is quite similar to the Shorthair in many respects though they differ in that the Wirehair is not as affectionate with, and is a bit more wary around strangers than is the indiscriminate and loving shorthair. Like most all the hunting dogs, this is a breed which requires plenty of exercise and is comfortable with the interaction and companionship from the human family that they know and love.
