Here’s Emmit the Italian Greyhound and his human at our Rocklin clinc. It’s easy to see from this picture that Emmit is built for speed. The Italian Greyhound is the smallest of the sight hounds and is genetically identical to historical Greyhounds dating back 2,000 – 4,000 years. In spite of their small size they are fast. Their double suspension gate (all 4 feet off the ground twice per stride during full speed gallop) can carry them to 25 mph. They are good companions and easy to get along with but of course they need time to run for exercise. The surprising thing about Greyhounds and Italian Greyhounds is that in spite of their super-canine speed they are actually a relaxed breed which, when not running, can be very quiet. Italians are good with people and their children but their slight build combined with their energy leaves them vulnerable to being injured during rough play. – Geoffrey Antipa http://dogandcatshots.com
