Benji The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Visited us in Rocklin

Dogs for every purpose at

This Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Benji brought his human with him to our Rocklin vaccination clinic. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is one of smallest Spaniels and the largest of the toy dog breeds and is easily confused with the English Toy Spaniel. In England, the Cavalier type diverged from the red and white hunting Blenheim type King Charles Spaniels which date to the early 1700s. This development of the larger Cavalier occurred in the early 1920s in an effort to authentically replicate the size and conformation of the first King Charles Spaniels. The breed was almost entirely lost during WWII, then a few were recovered and brought to America in 1956. Silky hair and feathered feet are a must so be ready with a comb. Because all Cavaliers descend from the very few WWII survivors. there are several genetic diseases which can recur through all members of the breed. – Geoffrey Antipa
