Here at our Manteca clinic we have a picture of Diesel who is pure hunting dog. The Weimaraner was developed in early 19’th century Weimar (Germany) as a large game hunting dog. When the popularity of hunting deer, boar, and bear declined, the dogs were used for hunting small game. I personally know of at least one lifelong hunter who has always used Weimaraners as bird dogs and has kept them as close to him as family. These dogs are phenomenally active and agile therefore requiring plenty of training and exercise. Weimaraners are loyal and as just mentioned, can make good pets though they may be too strong and rambunctious for either young children or the very old. Their hunting prey drive is strong so cats beware. – Geoffrey Antipa
